Magnetotelluric (MT) surveys are used to map variations in the electrical resistivity of the subsurface. Because the MT method has the ability to “see” deep into the earth, the technique can be applied to many different commodities on different scales. INDUCED POLARISATION (IP) AND RESISTIVITY (RES) SURVEYS
The IP/RES method maps the electrical resistivity but also ability of the Earth to hold charge (chargeability). A transmitter is used inject current into the Earth and receiving electrodes are used to resolve resistivity and chargeability measurements. Zones of high chargeability are often associated with the presence of disseminated sulphides. IP is used for the exploration of gold, copper, VMS and manganese. Through the process of inversion, 2D section and 3D volumes are created from which drill holes can be targeted.
